Our Standards

Globally Aligned, Locally Rooted The OISESA Standards & Indicators provide a comprehensive framework for school excellence

The standards serve as a framework providing benchmarks for schools to evaluate and improve their practice. The indicators offer a flexible way to demonstrate how those standards are met in practice.

A Framework
Shaped by Experience

Our framework is the result of extensive global
consultation and local validation:
Global Credibility

We collaborated with the International Council Advancing Independent Schools’ Accreditation (ICAISA) to ensure our benchmarks align with international standards.

Regional Expertise

The standards were refined through a pilot programme involving 55 diverse schools in 2022, and further honed by feedback from over 150 school visits in 2023, 168 in 2024 and 167 in 2025.

Bespoke Documents

We offer specialised Standards & Indicators for Grade R-12, Early Childhood Development (ECD), and Learners with Special Education Needs (LSEN) sectors.

Flexibility
by Design

We recognise the diversity of independent schooling in Southern Africa. Schools have the autonomy to discuss variations with their mentor to ensure the evaluation reflects their unique context.
