A Tribute to Barbara Houghton

Barbara Houghton was the former Headmistress and High School Principal of Springfield Convent School where she worked from 2011 – 2018.  After retirement, Barbara was appointed as Lead Evaluator for the Schools Evaluation Authority (SEA) in the Western Cape. She has also contributed to the writing of over 20 textbooks in the History and Economics fields.

Barbara joined the OISESA team as one of our inaugural mentors, and her knowledge and experience proved so valuable as we developed our fledgling process and the requisite guidelines for schools.

She left OISESA in January 2025, to take up an exciting new appointment as the Regional Director for ISASA in the Western Cape. We wish her every success in this new role!
