Meet the Mentors
Merritt Watson

Merritt Watson is an educator with over 38 years’ teaching experience, and over 19 years’ experience as an Educational Psychologist. She was the owner of School of Merit and has been a head for 32 years.
Merritt has extensive experience in dealing with children who experience different barriers to learning and is passionate about children who are placed in her care. She was responsible for a staff of 34 educators who she supported, mentored, and ensured high quality in-service training to empower her staff with the ability and knowledge to provide children with a sense of belonging and ultimately fulfil their own best hopes. She is passionate about education and has attended various high-level courses to ensure she is always kept abreast of changes and developments within the education sector.
Merritt has had the opportunity to lecture at numerous institutions both locally and internationally some of which include the University of Texas, and various states in America and Europe. She co-authored a book on solution focused teaching strategies and contributed a chapter to a book on solution focused brief therapy across Southern Africa, as well as a chapter in a book published by Routledge in the UK. The book has been requested by various professionals to help them gain an understanding of ‘how to do differently’ and focus on the child’s skill, instead of the problem. She has mentored inspiring principals to guide them on their path to leadership and shared her extensive knowledge and skill set. She demonstrates high levels of compassion, understanding and leadership.
