Meet our Mentors
Barbara Houghton
Barbara Houghton is the former Headmistress and High School Principal of Springfield Convent School where she worked from 2011 – 2018. Springfield Convent is a large day school for girls in Wynberg, Cape Town, with an enrolment of over 800 students from Grade R – 12.
Before joining Springfield Convent School, Barbara served as Deputy Head of St Cyprian’s, an all-girls school in Oranjezicht, Cape Town from 2003 – 2010. Prior to that she worked as an Economics and History educator and Deputy Head at Harold Cressy High School, also in Cape Town.
After retirement, Barbara was appointed as Lead Evaluator for the Schools Evaluation Authority (SEA) in the Western Cape. She has also contributed to the writing of over 20 textbooks in the History and Economics fields. Currently, she is Chair of the Auburn House Montessori School, an ISASA member school.
Barbara graduated with a BA Degree, HDE, and M. Phil Degree from the University of Cape Town and she obtained her BA (Honours) from the University of South Africa. She also completed the Leadership Development Programme at Wits Business School in 2006. She represented ISASA on the Western Cape Education Council.
